The struggle is real! You just bought a new coffee machine, because somebody recommended it or the guy at the store was super friendly and you couldn’t resist, but now you wonder: which capsule fits into that specific coffee machine? Where can I get the capsules? Can I only buy original capsules, or is there compatibles on the market at a much better price?
First things first: it is a jungle out there, so there is more machines and capsule types than you can imagine. To make it easier for you, we’ve listed the most popular systems below, and explained which capsule fits into which machine.
Please note that the list below can never be complete. There is just too many machines on the market, there is not enough space to list them all. NESPRESSO® ORIGINALLINE* COMPATIBILITY
All Nespresso®* Originalline/Original compatible pods are compatible with all DeLonghi / Breville Nespresso®* machines, including Le Cube, all Essenza models, all Citiz models, all Pixie models, all Lattissima models, all U models, Maestria and Inissia coffee machines (shown in order below). They are not compatible with Nespresso®* Vertuoline/Vertuo machines. Compatibility cannot be guaranteed with the following professional machines: Gaggia, Saeco or Siemens machines, Kitchen Aid machines, built-in models (Miele), Romeo Nespresso®* machine and capsule-holder machines, nor with multi-capsule machines.
CAFFITALY®* COMPATIBILITY
Urban Brew pods will work with all machines which accept Caffitaly®* pods. Compatibility cannot be guaranteed with multi-capsule machines.
K-FEE®* COMPATIBILITY
Urban Brew pods will work with all machines which accept K-Fee®* pods. Compatibility cannot be guaranteed with multi-capsule machines.
IS IT CALLED A COFFEE POD, CAPSULE OR PAD?
Firstly, are they pods or capsules? Well coffee pods are also known as coffee pads and are made from a material like a teabag. The most commonly used coffee pad is the ESE or Easy Serving Espresso pod/pad. Pod is more synonymous with coffee capsules. They are made from aluminum or plastic and were popularized by Nespresso. We chose to use the term pod.
NESPRESSO ORIGINAL VS. VERTUO
Now many different brands produce coffee pods/capsules and many of them have different designs which work on different machines. The most common design of pod is the Nespresso Original or classic pod. Many third party manufactures like us here at Urban Brew produce compatible pods for this style of system. Nespresso have recently created a new system with the Vertuoline of pods. These come in different sizes. These pods are barcoded, which means other manufacturers are unable to produce compatible pods that will work on this machine.
NESPRESSO COMPATIBLE PRODUCERS
There is a wide range of other brands that produce Nespresso compatible pods. Two prominent ones are Vittoria and LOR. However, both of these brands have their own machines. Although Vittoria produces Nespresso Compatible pods, they also have their own pod design and brand Espressotoria. These pods are a different shape to the Nespresso pods they produce and only work in their Espressotoria machine. LOR produces the Nespresso Original compataible pods and it has recently released a machine that works with the Nespresso Original shape but also a larger unique LOR design.
OTHER POD DESIGN PRODUCERS
The Caffitaly or Map style of pod is very similar to Aldis’ Expressi system which uses K-fee pods. Caffitaly and K-fee pods are usually interchangeable, however there are sometimes difference depending on who produces them. Our Caffitaly and K-fee compatible pods work on both systems . Another brand that has moved into coffee pods is Nescafe. They have the Nescafe Dolce Gusto style of pod which only works on their variety of machines.
